TRANSPORT APPLICATIONS ENGINEER- DALLAS, TX

The Select Group is looking for a Transport Applications Engineer to join one of our largest clients who is an industry leader in the telecommunications space. This person will be working to make engineers more effective in their role through improving current practices and procedures, this is a strategy focused role, not hands on. TRANSPORT APPLICATIONS ENGINEER REQUIREMENTS:

  • 7-10+ years in the networking / transport telecommunications industry
    • Coming from a carrier (AT&T, Verizon, TMobile, etc.) or Equipment Manufacturer (Fujitsu, Ciena, Ericcson, etc.) or similar fiber companies like CenturyLink
  • Experience wearing multiple hats in transport / network engineering
    • Experience with engineering, Planning, and/or Operations knowledge, especially with Local and Long-Haul Telecommunications networks.
  • Strategy Experience and/or excitement for this type of role
    • This person will be working to make engineers more effective in their role through improving current practices and procedures

      • Scrum / Agile Certifications

TRANSPORT APPLICATIONS ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Transport Applications Engineer within the Ultra Long Haul (ULH) team, you will be responsible for defining, engineering, and resolving network capacity requirements for the ultra-long haul transport network and OTN mesh network. You will assess process and strategies for high capacity next generation light wave and wave division multiplexing technologies to meet network services capacity, vulnerability, and diversity requirements. Responsibilities incorporate consideration for network planning, equipment engineering, circuit design, and inventory.

More Specifically….

Common Practices, Process, & Problem Solving - Improve processes for fundamentals such as Transport Capacity Requests, OTN Capacity Augments and New Installs, ULH New System Builds and Node Insertions. Working across internal and external teams to identify opportunities and resolve both existing processes and set direction for evolving business needs. Provide strategic support for Transmission Equipments in support of Intelligent Edge Network (iEN) expansion. Identify iEN LD/ULH Transport implementation and planning delays and coordinate stakeholders to resolve.

Standardization & Consistency - Ensure Usability by establishing Guidelines / Big Rules within ULH Transport Engineering for how and when to use New Technology, Equipments, and Network Advances. Elevate Capacity Management capabilities to bridge the gap with tools, process, and communication towards the business evolution

Efficiency Improvements - Identify and resolve inefficient processes impacting the implementation of LD/ULH transport network infrastructure and market delivery of their strategic products. Spearhead efficiencies for Network, Optimization, Process, Delivery, Interval Reduction, and Manpower. Collaborate with team to present recommendations on enhancements to increase efficiency, cost effectiveness and network reliability.

Network Consolidations - Formulate Engineering's involvement and feedback to corporate direction with integration of 5 existing Networks within the Business unit

IT Partnership - Develop and drive automation solutions within ULH responsibilities of inventory, forecast, equipment and circuit designs, migrations, equipment offloads, budget alignment, etc.

Network Partnerships - Actively seek partnerships to share ideas / progress and drive innovation. Lead the ULH Engineering team's key strategic business initiatives, including deployment of new network technology and the adoption of new inventory and provisioning systems. Partner with stakeholders to discuss and resolve issues to ensure the network is designed according to the network planning architecture plan. Key Stakeholders include Engineering Transformation, Infrastructure Planning, Facility Planning, and Global IP Data Network Engineering.

Direction & Documentation - Lead as a clear and visible information source of upcoming Transformational and Architecture impacts, and documentation strategy for ULH Transport Engineering information

  1. Space & Cooling - Establish processes from Capital Planning cycle thru CCR implementation kickoff to ensure adequate power, space and cooling available to support network growth and expansion. Coordination with Central Office Engineering and Contracts for Leased vendors for space, power, cooling as well as leased Fiber cable parameters.
