Position: 911 Operator
Location: Dallas, TX
Schedule: Flexibility to work various shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
(full-time or part-time hours available, temp-to-hire)
Handles emergency and non-emergency telephone calls requesting various types of service in various areas to provide communication support to field units through two-way radio network, telephone, and computer terminal to ensure city service needs are met with efficiency and safety of field personnel.
In training receives and evaluates calls from the public requesting police, fire, and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) assistance and transfers fire and ambulance calls to respective dispatcher as dictated by the situation and mandated in the departmental Directives to respond to safety needs of citizens.
Dispatches and processes non-emergency type of city service requests or concerns from citizens in areas such as requests for water turn-on's, or calls involving flooding conditions, signal outage, potholes, water meter being out, junk motor vehicle removal, apartment complaint, etc. to ensure quality customer service is provided.
Dispatches street emergencies to proper units and provides departments with additional support necessary to assist the Police and Fire Department in situations such as 2, 3, 4, or 5 alarm fires, detouring traffic, overturned 18 wheelers, hazardous spills, etc.
Monitors two-way radio and multi-line telephone, answering, receiving, and broadcasting calls to officers.
Operates computer terminal to provide information to field personnel.
Assists Fire, Police, and utility companies with routing and emergency notification.
Maintains numerous record logs for time, identification, type of service provided and location of officers.
High school diploma or GED
2+ years in a 911 Call-Taker capacity highly preferred. Dispatch/security experience also acceptable
Ability to handle high-stress situations with a calm, professional demeanor
Bilingual-Spanish helpful, but not required
Flexibility to work various shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
