With recognized brands like Gilmour, Nelson, and Weed Block, the company is fast-growing in the space, selling to “big box” and regional garden and hardware stores across North America. Domestic manufacturing operations are located outside of Kansas City, MO and Cincinnati, OH. L&G is PE-backed and is primed to expand through both organic and inorganic (M&A) channels.

Position Summary

The Manager of Strategic Finance will be responsible for leading the business planning and the translation of strategic plans into financial goals that challenge the business to excel. This person will also be responsible for assisting in the identification and execution of both organic and inorganic (M&A) growth opportunities. The successful strategic finance leader will need to build a strong, collaborative partnership with the business’ executive leadership team, key individuals within operating units, and investors to effect strategic change, communicate performance results, and forecast future performance. The strategic finance team will be responsible for incorporating likely/probable new business opportunities’, including acquisitions, financial performance expectations into existing business projections and track closely the associate integration & transition revenue and expense impacts. This team will develop and implement a financial performance and analysis framework including overall profitability & growth KPI’s, efficiency / performance metrics and dashboards, product line profitability / margin views, investment performance and capital allocation framework. The leader will need to effectively manage a process to ensure timely, accurate reporting and analytics and support in offering data-driven insights and recommendations to drive operational excellence for the business. This organization will also need to prepare executive, board, and 3rd party presentations that effectively communicate both insights and actionable next steps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and work closely with team to coordinate the planning and forecasting process including the multi-year strategic plan, the annual operating budget, and monthly forecast process
  • Manage long-term and short-term liquidity forecasts and associated reporting
  • Create a comprehensive financial performance & profitability framework that incorporates multiple / diverse product lines, SKU margin analyses, Capex ROIs, varying capital / regulatory reporting requirements, new business acquisitions, and investor-oriented return metrics
  • Develop and utilize data-driven analytics, including reports and dashboards, to generate value-added insights and actionable recommendations to drive growth and influence KPIs
  • Support CFO in developing both long-term and short-term financial goals for the business
  • Prepare planning, forecasting and variance messaging/presentations for key stakeholders
  • Prepare quarterly and monthly reporting packages, as well as other strategic and operational analyses, for presentation to executive management, the Board of Directors and investors
  • Make recommendations on improving process and planning/forecasting improvements

Qualifications

  • A university degree in economics, business, accounting or finance; MBA or investment banking / professional services experience is a plus
  • Minimum of 5-7 years working (or 3-5 years with MBA) across strategic finance functions (e.g., investment banking, M&A due diligence, performance improvement, strategy consulting)
  • Possess excellent business acumen with the ability to support recommendations provided to executive management and be able to demonstrate ability to lead projects cross-functionally across the organization
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in managing both strategic and tactical activities within finance and experience managing internal and external business partners across various business disciplines
  • Ability to challenge internal and external subject matter experts and identify key risks in areas outside direct areas of influence
